Lucas (JM de Guzman) returns to his condo after a night of heavy news and public criticism of the NLEA police force’s statement on the search for Edong’s (Jake Cuenca) presumed body, only to find Mel (Sue Ramirez) waiting for him, longing to reignite their past romance.
Teary-eyed, Mel emphasizes that, although she feels wrath for Edong, Lucas is not included in it because of the bond and feelings they once shared. Her words, however, trigger a heartbreaking revelation as Lucas forces her to remember the day they first met—when he wanted nothing to do with her due to how she and the rest of MABEL had ruined his brother’s life.
Circling back to the moment when Mel expressed her desire to start over, Lucas firmly declares that forming any connection with her is the last thing he would want. It is then revealed that Lucas had deliberately made it seem as though he had moved on from their past, all to extract the truth about Edong’s unjust imprisonment from Mel.
In a series of flashbacks, Mel enjoyed going on morning runs with Lucas, who kept pace effortlessly thanks to his fitness background. These runs became Mel’s safe haven from Anton, who turned even simple exercises into competitions.
During one of their morning routines, he subtly seized the opportunity to ask Mel about the false evidence—the watch, assumed to be Louisa’s (Mutya Orquia), found among Edong’s belongings. Much to his dismay, Mel brushed off the topic, explaining that she still couldn’t talk about the past because it made her anxious and she didn’t want to ruin what they were already building anew. Lucas masked his disappointment, repeating that he values moving forward with his life like his brother.
At present, despite Lucas’ honesty, Mel chose not to believe him, citing an instance when he became aggravated upon seeing her black eye from Anton. It was also the same moment when the two shared a first kiss, sparked by Lucas’ supposed confession that he truly cared for her.
Convinced that Lucas loved her more than Anton ever could, Mel clings to small, hopeless details—like how he kept her secret about Anton’s abuse when he could have used it against her. But with no love left to give, or perhaps never having had it to begin with, Lucas forces Mel out.
As Mel exits the building, one of Anton’s men reports back to him, hinting at another tension yet to be unraveled.
