Kapamilya actor Jameson Blake described his role as Anton in the mystery-thriller series What Lies Beneath as one of the most challenging performances of his career, citing how different the character is from his real-life personality.
“This is one of my hardest roles, I would say. In real life kasi I’m not really a confrontational person and I don't really get mad agad-agad. My character in the show is pretty much like that and medyo extreme siya in terms of those kinds of emotions, so I really have to think na ibang tao talaga ako as I played innocent,” Jameson said in an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, sharing that portraying Anton pushed him far beyond his comfort zone.
Despite the difficulty, Jameson said the role allowed him to explore a wider emotional range, which he found both challenging and rewarding. “It was fun playing a role like that kasi it really tested my range as an actor and I enjoyed playing around with those emotions. Even though in that day I’m okay, I’m happy, but I have to get mad for the scene. Overall, it was a great experience and I enjoyed playing Anton.”
Jameson also expressed appreciation for working with Sue Ramirez, noting that their previous collaborations helped make demanding scenes easier to execute. “It was a great experience working with her kasi we’ve worked together before and this time, iba ‘yung atake na ginagawa namin ngayon, iba ‘yung roles. This is funny kasi we worked together multiple times and it’s always a different concept. I’m happy na she is my partner here kasi I'm really comfortable with her, so it’s easier to do scenes with her.”
He added that intense scenes require strong cooperation among co-actors and praised Sue for her professionalism. “With scenes like this, hindi siya madali, so I really have to cooperate with my co-actors. I’m happy Sue is very engaging and very professional in what she does.”
Jameson also said the audience’s strong reactions to Anton, including viewers expressing anger toward the character, affirmed that his portrayal was effective. “Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng mga nanonood ng What Lies Beneath. It’s nice to see everybody engaging with the show. It really puts a smile on our faces to see everybody discussing who could be the killer and talking about each of everyone’s characters and the story behind it. Masaya ako na maganda ang comments.”
“I’m also happy na people are mad at my character kasi it shows na my character (is effective). I’ve seen good and bad comments naman. It’s nice to see everybody's reviews and actually enjoy the show,” he added.
Meanwhile, Jameson revealed that he is preparing for a new teleserye under Dreamscape Entertainment. “I’m preparing for another teleserye under Dreamscape. This is my hardest so far. If you see Anton, it will be a different level, so I’m just happy that you are gonna see this project. It’s a nice project.”
Despite getting another challenging role, Jameson emphasized that he still remains open to exploring different genres and concepts in the future. “I'm not leaning towards one side only. Open pa rin ako sa ibang concepts and genres. Siguro for now lang they give me this kind of roles and I’m happy and grateful that they see that I could take on these roles kasi hindi siya madali.”
