Mia (Anne Curtis)’s birthday is coming up, but she isn’t the only one in for a surprise in Episode 42 of "It’s Okay to Not Be Okay."
At OK Hospital, Eden (Agot Isidro) noticed Olivia (Maricel Laxa) carrying a giant dinosaur stuffed toy. When asked, Olivia explained that she wanted to give it to Matmat (Carlo Aquino), who was still in the isolation room, after finding out he loves dinosaurs. Eden criticized her for meddling, but Olivia shot back that Eden was just too pessimistic, always finding fault in acts of kindness. Before the argument could go further, a nurse stepped in to call Olivia away as a patient needed help.
Inside the isolation room, Matmat was overjoyed by the surprise visit of “Mama Dinosaur,” with Eden bringing in the stuffed toy. He happily chatted with her about his knowledge of dinosaurs, reciting different species and their characteristics. When Eden asked if there were dinosaurs that could fly, Matmat eagerly replied that there was—the Pterodactyl—though he explained that it was more like a relative of the dinosaur family.
Eden remarked that dinosaurs, like humans, also had families. Matmat agreed and found “Mama Dinosaur” kind, which prompted Eden to ask if his own mother was just as kind. With honesty, Matmat said his mom was always good to him but admitted that she was sometimes not as kind to his younger brother Patrick (Joshua Garcia).
For avid fans of the original K-Drama, the 'Mama Dinosaur' scene is a highly anticipated moment, as in the Korean version, it was actually the mom of Ko Moon-young (Mia in the PH adaptation) who gave the dinosaur, which is supposed to be a major clue to her identity. But with Olivia planning the gift and Eden delivering it, the Philippine adaptation is clearly keeping viewers guessing.
Meanwhile, Nanay Li (Rio Locsin) lovingly prepared food for Patrick, hoping to revive his appetite after his falling out with Matmat. Patrick managed a smile at the spread she laid before him and apologized, knowing she worried about him too. Sitting by his side, Nanay Li jokingly confessed that at times she wondered if she should let the brothers starve and kick them out of her compound, especially after Patrick rejected her daughter Gemma (Kaori Oinuma). But the truth is she could never be that kind of mother, because her conscience wouldn’t allow her to watch people around her go hungry.
Nanay Li told Patrick she would only accept his apology if he would eat what she had prepared, reminding him he needed to regain his strength. When asked why she’ so loving to him, she answered that whatever he went through in the past was only part of who he had become, and that she saw so much goodness in him, so much that she would willingly be his mother in the next life. Patrick quietly sipped the soup and replied that he no longer wanted another life.
Nanay Li volunteered to bring home Matmat after he was discharged from isolation, so Patrick could focus on himself. Later, Gemma reminded Patrick of what they always tell their patients—that happiness begins with oneself. She assured him it would never be selfish to prioritize his own happiness since that would be the only way he could truly share it with Matmat. But Patrick remained silent, showing no other emotions.
Elsewhere, Vincent (Enchong Dee) exhausted himself after showing off to Gemma’s godmother at the market, volunteering to help sell and carry heavy boxes of fruit all in an effort to make a good impression, only to get another round of headache over the antics of his enthusiastic assistant, Madeth (Xyriel Manabat), who had prepared a birthday surprise for Mia complete with a dark chocolate cake, which she described as “madilim pero hindi masyadong matamis,” just like Mia’s conscience, according to her.
As for Mia, she kept pulling attention-grabbing stunts in the hopes of convincing Patrick to come back home. She threatened to destroy the only copy of Matmat’s favorite cartoon show, sent him a message saying that it's her birthday the next day and demanded that Patrick buy her a cake, and even went as far as heating her forehead with a hair blower to fake a fever. She then sent Patrick a photo of herself holding a thermometer, saying she needed medicine and soup.
Her confidence rose when she heard a knock on the door, assuming it was Patrick finally giving in. But to her disappointment, it was just Mang Dipong accompanying Gemma, who went there to collect Patrick and Matmat’s things, as instructed by Patrick.
