As a locked up Datu Rahman (Jaime Fabregas) shakily holds the profile sketch of Jalil (Gerald Anderson), he wistfully reflects on the day he saved an unconscious Gabriel from the sea.
Suffering from post-traumatic amnesia, Gabriel unfortunately failed to remember his name after the tragedy that separated him from his brother, Marcus (Richard Gutierrez). At the time, Datu Rahman was known as Hassan, and he planned to leave Isla Damai as soon as he could.
When he was geared up to do so, a Muslim woman stopped him, stressing that Gabriel learned to love him dearly as a father. In response, Hassan explained that he doesn’t deserve to take care of Gabriel since he was a part of the reason why he lost his memory and family.
The woman further argued that Hassan was still trying to become a better person and that it would be a worse mistake to abandon Gabriel. Hassan then disclosed that many dangerous individuals are searching for him, which would inevitably put Gabriel at risk.
In the end, the woman reminded Hassan that he initially wanted to change his life, and he would be able to accomplish this in Isla Damai, where the community will protect him as long as he changes his name. Hassan carefully chose to take the name Datu Rahman, and Gabriel followed, becoming Jalil Abubakar.
