On “Your Face Sounds Familiar,” several performers have taken on the challenge of channeling the OPM rock icon. Their renditions not only highlight his influence but also reaffirm just how remarkable a performer he is. Here's a throwback to the times Bamboo was brought to life on stage!
Jay R (YFSF Season 1, 2015) - “Noypi”
From his signature genre of R&B, Jay R switched things up as he transformed into a rockstar this time to sing the iconic hit “Noypi.” Aside from capturing Bamboo’s nuances and stage mannerisms, Jay R’s vocals did not disappoint either.
Judge Jed Madela remarked that each passing week, Jay-R always has something unexpected to bring. “You always give us a show, pure entertainment. You give us what we ask for. Great job.” Calling Bamboo himself iconic, Judge Gary Valenciano said that Jay-R lived up to their expectations with his performance. “Pinag-aralan mo talaga,” he added.
As a fan of Jay R, Judge Sharon Cuneta had nothing but good words for him. “From the very beginning, you are easily one of my top 3 favorites. Is there anything you cannot do well?” She went on to thank him for putting so much effort into every artist he portrays.
Jay R placed 3rd at the end of the season.
Sam Shoaf (YFSF Kids Season 1, 2017) - “Hallelujah”
Sam Shoaf hyped up the crowd with his high-energy performance of “Hallelujah.” After his number, he received a special surprise, it was none other than Bamboo himself who stepped on stage. Later on, Sam and Bamboo shared a duet of “Hallelujah.”
When it was time for the judges’ comments, they all expressed the same sentiments toward Sam. Judge Gary Valenciano, who highlighted Bamboo’s distinct vocals, appreciated what Sam delivered. “Ginaya mo lahat ng mga nakita ko kay Bamboo, ginaya mo,” he said.
Judge Ogie Alcasid loved the swag and angst Sam brought, while Judge Sharon Cuneta approved of his portrayal of Bamboo. “’Yung itsura nakuha mo, [pati] porma. ‘Yung galaw mo, ‘yung swag.” She saw Sam as someone with immense potential and talent.

Onyok Pineda (YFSF Kids Season 2, 2018) - “Hallelujah”
Another little rockstar is set to embody Bamboo, and this time, Onyok Pineda gives his own take on the track “Hallelujah.” When the chorus hit, everyone in the studio started singing along with him, as if they were at his own solo concert.
Judge Sharon Cuneta praised Onyok for delivering a great number. Judge Ogie Alcasid followed, noting how Onyok captured Bamboo’s onstage behavior, especially when he ran all over the place to keep the energy up. “Onyok, for a first performance, okay na okay yun,” he added.
Confident that a child as talented as Onyok will eventually be recognized, Judge Gary Valenciano found his number endearing. “Ang ginawa mo, lumabas ka dito dahil mahal mo si Bamboo, siya ‘yung paborito mo, at nag-enjoy ka sa ginawa mo. At para sa akin, ako ay nag-enjoy,” he remarked.
Onyok placed 2nd at the end of the season.
Jhong Hilario (YFSF Season 3, 2021) - “Tatsulok”
From owning the stage with his dance stints, Jhong went full-on rockstar mode to perform the hit “Tatsulok.” His look, vocals, and nuances matched Bamboo so closely that even before his performance ended, the judges were already giving him a standing ovation.
“Sobra akong nagalingan,” said Judge Ogie Alcasid, even admitting that he had become a fan of Jhong. Meanwhile, Judge Sharon Cuneta acknowledged that Bamboo is no easy artist to embody, but Jhong did it remarkably well. “Pati ‘yung pitch ni Bamboo, you made an effort and it really showed. I super appreciate your performance,” she mentioned.
Bamboo is one unique artist, and Judge Gary Valenciano agreed. “’Yung tayo, dating, boses, at galaw niya ay very different onstage. Pero natutuwa ako dahil ang gumaya sa kanya ay isang unique na artist din, and that’s you, Jhong.” He expressed his delight that Jhong really studied Bamboo well.

Jarlo Base (YFSF Season 4, 2026) - “Tatsulok”
When he stepped out of the ‘iconator,’ Bamboo was already in his spirit, carrying his rockstar façade as Jarlo Base took on the hit “Tatsulok.” After lighting up the studio, Jarlo shared more of what he had learned about Bamboo’s mannerisms, with the other ka-Familiars joining him onstage.
Later, Judge Ogie Alcasid described Jarlo’s performance in one word: “powerful,” adding, “Sobrang striking ‘yung intonation. Ang galing mong singer. I've known you to be a balladeer, but pwede ka rin sa rock. You really showed your versatility.”
Judge Gary Valenciano noted how Bamboo performs, saying his energy carries a message that reflects his belief in what the song conveys. “Everything else you did tonight, eksakto dun sa energy na ginagamit ni Bamboo,” he said. Finally, Judge Sharon Cuneta highlighted how Jarlo keeps getting better every week. “Napaka-amazing na nadadala nang napakahusay.”
