'Bass' in comedy! Rufa Mae Quinto is definitely never beating the “always entertaining” allegations as she once again energized “Your Face Sounds Familiar” viewers, this time channeling “All About That Bass” singer Meghan Trainor for the show’s 11th round.
Just from the mentoring session, Rufa Mae already brought the laughter as she tried to copy Meghan’s signature vocal style—that slightly squeezed, pinched tone—with the help of coach Klarisse De Guzman. After trying it out, she noted that she sounded “may kabag,” which left Klarisse in stitches.
The movement training didn’t seem to stress her out either. Coach Nyoy Volante’s pointer was that she must keep her vibe very cute, charming, and positive onstage, which is exactly her personality.
And the outcome was, unsurprisingly, hilarious. Mid-performance, she even casually nudged a dancer out of her way and topped it off with her trademark expressions. Rufa Mae was obviously having the time of her life, especially with her daughter Athena watching from the audience.
The jury then played along with her humor, with judge Gary Valenciano joking that while the song’s lyrics say “no treble,” her performance was “puro trouble.” But, beneath the comedy, Gary appreciated her authenticity—“what you see is what you get,” as he put it—which he said is exactly why audiences love the comedienne.
Judge Ogie Alcasid added that “All About That Bass” might just be the perfect opening number at her upcoming concert, which he himself is set to produce.
Watch out for more amazing transformations on “Your Face Sounds Familiar,” weeknights, 7:15PM on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), A2Z, ALLTV, and iWant.
