Sure, Vice Ganda can make us laugh effortlessly, but when she starts to take on serious topics, you’ll find yourself slow clapping and maybe even saying, “Koronahan na ’yan!” because her words of wisdom are always nothing short of a winner.
And since "Call Me Mother," her film that’s now showing globally, takes moviegoers into the dazzling world of pageantry, Star Cinema decided to challenge her with some iconic pageant questions straight out of a Miss Universe Q&A, and let’s just say, she served. Mic drop.
First on the list, "As an international ambassador, do you think that speaking English should be a prerequisite for Miss Universe? Why or why not?" You know how she'd play it. First, she repeated the question to buy some thinking time, then turned to everyone in the room with a hilarious, "What do you think, guys?"
But when she got serious, Vice dropped a response so 'pak' it left the people in the studio jaw-dropped, "I do not think that speaking English should be a prerequisite for Miss Universe because I believe what is important is a person who has a heart and speaks about love and compassion," she reflected. "Because love and compassion is the most universal language."
Borrowing the iconic question once asked to Gloria Diaz in Miss Universe 1969, Vice was then asked in the next round of the challenge, "In the next day or so, a man will land on the moon. If a man from the moon landed in your hometown, what would you do to entertain him?"
The “It’s Showtime” host went for a simple yet applause-worthy answer, saying she knew exactly how to entertain the man from the moon, "I will turn on the television and tune in to 'It's Showtime' because it's the most entertaining noontime show in the Philippines."
For sure, the Kapamilya community would be touched by her next statement when she was thrown the 1973 Miss Universe final question—the one that crowned Margie Moran, "Let's make believe all of a sudden you had a million dollars. What's the first thing you would buy and why would you buy it?"
"If I had a million dollars, the first thing that I would buy is ABS-CBN," she replied, drawing cheers. "I will buy ABS-CBN, and after a while, I will turn it back to its original owners."
The fun continued with some ‘playtime’ questions, like, "Ano ang mas pipiliin mo? Maging maalat o maasim?" And of course, her answer was just as playful, "Ang tagal ko nang maasim sa mundong 'to! Gusto ko naman maging maalat kasi ang sarap din maging maalat... lalo na kung itlog ito."
'Meme' also proved her wit when asked what ice cream flavor she’d be and why it would always be sold out. She thought of naming herself 'Halo-Halo Fiesta,' which sounds very Filipino. "Bakit palaging sold out? Kasi libre naman ako. Isa akong baklang pamigay," joked the Unkabogable Superstar.
