UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Karen Davila shared the highlights from her first day at the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
This year's theme focuses on “Access to justice. Be that offline or online.”
On Instagram, the broadcaster detailed the activities she participated in during the opening day of the event.
"Started the day early. President Marcos Jr makes a bid for the Philippines to secure a non-permanent seat at the UN National Security Council. Observers say PH has a good chance of getting it given our 60-year history with the UN," she relayed.
Karen later moderated a "high-level discussion on 'Setting Global Standards for Tech-Facilitated Violence Against Women & Girls.'"
The panel focused on "what countries like the UK, Spain, Australia are doing and platforms like Meta (FB) and Cinder AI," as per Karen. She added: "Great topic - stopping the spread of ‘non-consensual intimate images’ like revenge porn, sex videos, AI manipulated sex images."
During the event, Karen also had the opportunity to meet Tarana Burke, the founder of the "Me Too" movement. "Honored to meet the Founder of the ‘Me Too’ movement, Tarana Burke and talk about how they are navigating to preventing online abuse!" she shared.
The TV Patrol news anchor also interviewed Filipino-Americans detained by ICE, tackling "what our kababayans are doing to help get them out of detention."
Karen concluded her day with a meeting at the UN Women office. "AND… closed with a meeting at my homebase - the UN Women Office!" she stated.

Karen Davila appointed as first UN Women Philippines Goodwill Ambassador
Karen was appointed the first UN Women Philippines Goodwill Ambassador in September 2023.
She traveled to the UN headquarters in Bangkok at that time of her appointment, where she was welcomed by the UN family.
Karen shared back then that she would be working with UN Women champions and advocates in the Philippines "to help bring about change in mindsets, behaviour and hopefully, in the everyday lives of women & girls through projects we will be involved in."
