MANILA — Mika Reyes shone in her first Premier Volleyball League (PVL) final, helping PLDT win its breakthrough title on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Reyes registered 20 points including a record seven blocks to clinch the Finals MVP honors of the preseason tournament, edging out fellow stars Savi Davison, Kim Kianna Dy, and Majoy Baron for the top individual plum.
The famed middle blocker from De La Salle University shared during the championship presser that she was genuinely surprised when her name was called.
"‘Di ko rin talaga in-expect. ‘Di ko rin narinig actually, pero hindi ko rin talaga in-expect," the 31-year-old Reyes said.
The High Speed Hitters averted disaster, reconnecting in the fifth set against Chery Tiggo, 25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 15-8, in the winner-take-all match.

The 6-foot star from Bulacan asserted that she prefers the "On Tour" title rather than the individual award, saying that her team matters more.
"I think mas importante talaga sa’kin ‘yung para sa team. Mas gusto kong makuha ‘yung championship than any other individual award," she said.
The High Speed Hitters have finally overcame the pains they experienced, turning those into a triumph—and it was the moment Reyes has been waiting for.

"Sobrang frustrating talaga siya at the same time, ‘yung sinabi rin ni coach [Rald Ricafort] kanina na sa lahat ng mga heartbreaks na na-experience namin, hindi pa rin kami tumigil. I think ‘yun ‘yung nagpapasarap talaga sa championship na ‘to," she said.
"Kasi kahit anong mangyari the past few years, mas naging motivation pa sa amin ‘yun."
Reyes and PLDT will see action in the upcoming 2025 Invitational Conference, which will commence on Thursday, August 21.
