MANILA (UPDATED) -- Chery Tiggo put an emphatic end to Nxled's dream campaign in the 2025 PVL on Tour, Saturday afternoon at the Philsports Arena.
The Crossovers imposed their will on the Chameleons en route to a 25-17, 25-15, 25-20 victory, in the process sealing their place in the semifinals of the competition.
There, the Crossovers will take on the Cignal HD Spikers, who had earlier booked their ticket by sweeping Akari in their own quarterfinals affair.
Cess Robles led the way with 12 points, all on kills, while Ara Galang and Renee Penafiel each had 10 markers for Chery Tiggo. Imee Hernandez added 10 points, and the Crossovers registered a significant 50-33 advantage in kills against the Chameleons.
It was a disappointing result for the Chameleons, who had gone 4-1 in the preliminary phase to make it to the playoffs of a PVL tournament for the first time in franchise history.
They didn't have the firepower to keep up with Chery Tiggo, however, especially after falling behind early in all three sets and playing catch-up for most of the match.
Already trailing by two sets, the Chameleons again fell behind in the third frame and appeared to be fading when Hernandez scored for a 20-14 Chery Tiggo advantage.
But a hitting error by Robles and a rejection on rookie Baby Jyne Soreno gave Nxled some life, 20-16. Robles was quick to make up for her miscue, however, firing a hit off the Nxled blockers for a 21-16 count. A Penafiel kill put Chery Tiggo at match point, 24-18.
Nxled rookie Lyann de Guzman tried to rally the Chameleons back into the match, with an emphatic crosscourt attack putting them within striking distance, 24-20. But in the next rally, Chery Tiggo leaned on Mary Rhose Dapol, whose lone point of the match turned out to be the winner.
EJ Laure-Carino led Nxled in a losing effort, with 13 points on 10 kills and two aces. Jovelyn Fernandez was the only other Chameleon in double-digits, with 10 points.
