MANILA – Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) President Cynthia Carrion is hopeful the country's top gymnasts, especially two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, will take home medals at the 53rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

Carrion earlier told ABS-CBN News that Yulo joined some members of the Philippine national team in Japan for training before heading to Jakarta, Indonesia.

Yulo banners the Philippine contingent alongside Southeast Asian medalists Miguel Besana, Ace de Leon and Ivan Cruz.

The GAP President said she expects Yulo to win a gold medal, as he competes in two apparatus in the tournament.

"I hope we win. Well, we're hoping that Carlos wins the gold medal. But he's only going to do two apparatus. Of course floor and vault. Those are the only two because he has had so many activities that he's not really prepared for all apparatus," Carrion said.

"But for the Olympics, he's going to be all around, all the apparatus. But now he's only going to do two," she explained.

Yulo looks to add to his two World Championship gold medals in this year's edition.

In the 2023 World Championships in Belgium, Yulo narrowly finished fourth in the floor exercise, which was the only apparatus he qualified for the finals.

Yulo's younger sister Elaiza will also compete in the tournament alongside Paris Olympians Aleah Finnegan and Emma Malabuyo, as well as Haylee Garcia.

The World Championships will take place from October 19 to 25 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
