MANILA — The remaining tropical cyclone wind signals in Northern Luzon were lifted Thursday evening as Tropical Depression Maymay continued to move away from Luzon, according to PAGASA.
At 10 p.m., the tropical depression was located 290 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.
It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour with gustiness up to 55 kph. It is moving east northeastward at 35 kph.
Maymay is forecast to weaken into a low pressure area by Friday morning, August 7, before eventually merging with the broader circulation of Typhoon Dolphin, which is outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
As Maymay moves away and eventually dissipates, the southwest monsoon or Habagat will become the dominant weather system affecting Luzon and Visayas.
The enhanced Habagat is expected to bring significant rainfall over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas through the weekend.
