MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has authorized Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla to designate other department officials to approve foreign travel requests of local officials "to facilitate faster processing".

Administration Order No. 47 amends a 1992 order delegating some of the president's supervisory powers to the DILG chief, including approving of foreign travel of local government officials.

The further delegation of that power is meant to address the volume of the requests "to ensure responsiveness amid contemporary government realities" while maintaining oversight and supervision of local government units.

Under the Local Government Code or the Republic Act No. 7160, local government officials traveling abroad need permission from the Office of the President for travel longer than three months, during periods of emergency or crisis, or when the travel involves the use of public funds.
