MANILA — Preparations are underway for the “Trillion Peso March,” a massive protest set on Sunday, November 30, with organizers expecting hundreds of thousands of participants to fill White Plains Avenue amid growing public outrage over alleged government corruption.
Organizers, together with the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), met at Camp Karingal on Friday to finalize arrangements and ensure orderliness, safety, and security during the event.
The November 30 rally, which coincides with Bonifacio Day, follows the large-scale anti-corruption protest held on September 21. It is organized by a broad coalition of religious groups, civic society, sectoral organizations, and political formations united against corruption and political dynasties.
The day’s activities will begin at 6 a.m., with participating organizations and schools gathering before marching at 7:30 a.m. toward the People Power Monument (PPM).
A stage will be set up beside the monument for a series of programs, including an interfaith segment from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a concert featuring guest artists, performers, and speeches from celebrities and advocates until 6 p.m.
“Tinataya po natin na maabot ang 120,000,” said Kiko Dee, convenor of Tindig Pilipinas. “Ang sigurado po para sa mga organizers, pinaghahandaan namin ang posibilidad na umabot na rin sa EDSA ang crowd at hindi lang mako-contain sa White Plains Avenue. Naiintindihan naman po ito ng Quezon City Hall at MMDA at naghahanda kami nang ayon dito.”
(We expect to reach 120,000. Organizers are preparing for the possibility that the crowd will spill over to EDSA and not just be contained along White Plains Avenue. QC Hall and MMDA understand this, and we are making preparations accordingly.)
The entire stretch of White Plains Avenue will be dedicated to the rally.
LED walls and speakers will be installed at strategic points along White Plains and EDSA.
“Maaga pa lang, we will be preparing the set-up dahil throughout EDSA pati White Plains Avenue ang hinahanda nating speakers and LED walls. Mamo-monitor natin kung may nagga-gather na doon,” Dee said.
(As early as now, we’ll begin the setup since we’re preparing speakers and LED walls throughout EDSA and White Plains Avenue. We will be able to monitor where people are beginning to gather.)
Access points for the general public marches will be coming from Temple Drive and EDSA Shrine. Those taking the MRT are advised to get off at Santolan–Annapolis Station.
Vehicle access will be restricted along the whole stretch of White Plains Avenue and areas of EDSA directly connected to White Plains. Those driving to the event may park in Greenhills, Ortigas, Cubao, or Ayala, then take the MRT.
REMINDERS
Participants are encouraged to:
- Wear white and bring a white ribbon as a symbolic call for clean governance.
- Bring their own food and drinks as vendors may be limited.
- Bring umbrellas or raincoats, hats, fans, portable stools, and garbage bags.
- Use transparent bags for easier security inspection, as requested by QC DPOS.
There will be ambulances, medical stations, and portable toilets in key areas.
Rallygoers are reminded to keep the area clean and to come in groups for safety.
“Come as a group, join your family, join your school, join your barkada,” Dee said. “Kapag meron pong sumingit na medyo kakaiba ang sinasabi, may mga marshals po na puwedeng i-contact para makausap ‘yong mga taong ganoon.”
(Come as a group — with family, school, or friends. If someone behaves suspiciously or says something unusual, marshals are available to approach and address the situation.)
Civil society and religious organizations will deploy marshals. Senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and others with special needs are advised to stay at the EDSA Shrine or in the designated space near the stage.
OTHER AREAS
Simultaneous activities will be held in Angeles City, Pampanga, Candelaria, Quezon, Legazpi City, Albay, Cebu City, Tacloban City, Bacolod City, Dumaguete City, Iloilo City, General Santos City, Cagayan de Oro City, and Zamboanga City.
Around 30 dioceses nationwide will also hold parallel protest actions.
Meanwhile, other groups announced separate mobilizations at Rizal Park and Mendiola on Sunday.
