Celebrity player Eric Fructuoso’s fate on “Kapamilya Deal or No Deal” seemed sealed from the very start of the May 30 episode after he unfortunately eliminated all the highest amounts in the first four consecutive rounds.
Things only went from bad to worse when the remaining P5,000 under the row of high amounts was taken off the board after briefcase number 19 was opened. With no chance anymore of winning a significant prize, Eric shockingly did the unthinkable. Unlike previous celebrity players who chose to see the game through until their own briefcase was opened, Eric accepted the Banker’s offer of just P101 by pressing the red button and saying “DEAL.”
“Ako’y natutuwa,” host Luis Manzano playfully told Eric after he pressed the red button. “Isa lang ang aking hihingiin mula sa’yo bilang kaibigan. Sa P101 na ‘yan, isa lang ang hihingiin ko: huwag mo kaming kakalimutan.”
Luis further teased Eric by also reminding him not to forget the audience members who urged him to open briefcase number 2. It contained P500,000—the highest remaining amount on the money board at the time—instantly crushing any hopes of a big win. Playing along with the joke, Eric sarcastically replied that he certainly would not forget them, drawing laughter from everyone in the studio.
He may have said “DEAL” to the offer earlier than expected—as the next briefcases he opened revealed low amounts—Eric still made the right decision in the end. When his own briefcase was finally opened, it was revealed to contain just P100, allowing him to still beat Banker’s offer by P1—an amusing twist tied to his dog named “Piso.”
