Lapit mga kaibigan at makinig kayo—because Jarlo Base’s Round 13 performance on "Your Face Sounds Familiar" is definitely worth watching and listening to.
Raising Pinoy pride, Jarlo transformed into Filipino-American singer-rapper apl.de.ap, a member of the Grammy Award-winning hip-hop group The Black Eyed Peas.
During mentoring, celebrity coaches Klarisse De Guzman and Nyoy Volante gave Jarlo very similar pointers, telling him the most important element to remember is that whenever apl.de.ap performs, he always makes sure the message he wants to convey comes across, especially when it’s about his roots as a Filipino.
As mentor Klarisse explained, apl.de.ap’s rap delivery is almost like a speech set to a beat. When it comes to movement, Nyoy reminded Jarlo that the icon is a very soft-spoken, cool guy on stage.
All of these were reflected in Jarlo’s impressive performance of The APL Song. Take it from juror Ogie Alcasid, who commented that Jarlo’s energy on stage had just the right balance. Sharon Cuneta was also truly proud knowing this isn’t Jarlo’s usual genre, yet he still managed to pull it off with every detail landing just right.
