Over the past recent months, avid viewers of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” have surely witnessed the continuously growing war between the powerful Montenegro and Guerrero clans. What started out as a typical business rivalry has eventually extended into politics, as their respective heirs, Tanggol (Coco Martin) and Miguelito (Jake Cuenca)—who at one point used to be business partners—are currently vying to become the next mayor of Manila City.

Since both families are patriarchal, it’s the men whom we have seen usually battling with each other. However, even though their male family members tend to look down at them or take them for granted as they’re perceived to be weak, emotional, and even useless, the Guerrero and Montenegro women are able to prove that they can be as powerful, dangerous, and brave as them, too.

We get to see that through Doña Pilar (Louise delos Reyes/Celia Rodriguez), who, despite choosing to stay with her abusive and philandering husband, Don Gustavo (Jhong Hilario/Dante Rivero), and overlook his mistakes and crimes, was still brave enough to stand her ground and fight for the family that she worked hard to build. Thus, we’d watched her try to finish off Tindeng (Elisse Joson/Charo Santos) not just once but twice.

And the war between Pilar and Tindeng didn’t stop at them, as it drizzled down on their respective daughters, Olivia (Chanda Romero) and Marites (Cherry Pie Picache). But unlike their mothers, whose clash began after Pilar caught Gustavo’s extra-marital affair with Tindeng—to which the latter was just an unwilling victim—Marites and Olivia’s fight is actually motivated by their love for their respective mothers, whom they are willing to protect no matter what it takes.

We’ve collated five of the most scorching confrontations between Olivia and Marites in this episode of Friday 5.

Now that they live under one roof—as Marites agreed to live with Ramon (Christopher de Leon) in order to run away from Rigor (John Estrada), while Olivia decided to move in after it was confirmed that Don Julio (Tommy Abuel) is indeed her biological father—the face-offs between the two of them are just getting stronger.

Let us begin on the arrival of Olivia at the Montenegro mansion, in which she kicked Marites out of her bedroom since it was the one she’d chosen to be her quarters. Marites tried to talk politely to her, to the point that she even called her “ate,” or big sister, yet Olivia replied to her crassly and boastfully. As Marites told her that she would have to notify Don Julio and Ramon first about it, Olivia sarcastically asked her why she had to tell her dad and brother when she’s not yet an official member of the family yet.

During Pilar and Tindeng’s heated encounter upon seeing each other face-to-face again for the first time after so many decades, we surely saw Olivia and Marites meddle in the skirmish in order for them to defend and protect their respective mothers. A double quarrel ensued among the four of them, with Olivia eventually hurling insults at Marites and Tindeng, which prompted Marites to warn Olivia about retaliating against her.

Marites may be the type of person who has immense patience, yet she’s able to prove a lot of times that she actually knows how to fight as well. One of those instances was when Olivia blamed her for the demise of her one and only son, Iñigo (Albie Casiño), simply because she’s an illegitimate child of Don Gustavo, which makes her a Guerrero by blood. The tragedy happened during the miting de avance of Team Tanggol, which was presumed to be maneuvered by the Guerreros.

It was Olivia who attacked first, to which Marites responded by showing her feistiness that we don’t see often. Marites’ gigil towards her further intensified as Olivia threw insults at her and insisted that between the two of them, it’s Marites who does not have the right at the Montenegro mansion.

Following her visit to the Guerreros in her pursuit of asking them for a ceasefire, Marites was scolded by both Don Julio (Tommy Abuel) and Ramon (Christopher de Leon) for doing so without even telling them. Olivia then came into the scene and ridiculed her for easily falling for Don Gustavo’s promises, telling her that the Guerrero patriarch would never do such a thing, as she implied that he’s someone who cannot be trusted because of how wicked, cunning, and treacherous he is.

Olivia went on to rebuke Marites for claiming something that in the first place is not rightfully hers nor her mom’s, which was the real estate property that Don Gustavo had gifted to Tindeng many decades ago. As she tried to take away the documents from Marites since she insisted that it was Doña Pilar who worked hard to acquire those properties, Ramon finally intermeddled to stop her from pestering Marites.

And lastly, Olivia and Marites got into another altercation again during the massive brawl that erupted between the Montenegros and Guerreros. It all started with Jackie (Angel Aquino) and Olivia’s catfight and was succeeded by a fisticuff between Miguelito and Tanggol, as well as their henchmen. But after she was able to knock down Jackie, Olivia eventually turned her focus on Marites, whom she slapped right away upon catching her just watching the action unfold at the sidelines.
