Pilita Corrales’ notable and prolific career milestones and admirable facet as a mom and grandma were highlighted in a touching tribute, with her daughter Jackie Lou Blanco and granddaughter Janine joining the “ASAP” fam in paying homage to her.
It commenced with Martin and Jackie Lou performing a duet of “Kapantay ay Langit,” which was succeeded by an exhilarating dance numbers from “ASAP New Gen Supah Dancers” Jameson Blake, Jeremy G, AC Bonifacio, and Gela Atayde, as well as from “Pinoy Big Brother Gen 11” alumnae Fyang Smith, Kolette Madelo, and Jas Dudley, of the modern versions of “Ang Pipit” and “Kataka-taka,” two of the Filipino folk songs popularized by Pilita.
Gary and Martin, whose stellar careers they owe to the “Asia’s Queen of Songs,” as she guested them on the show when both of them were just beginning in showbiz, caught up with Jackie Lou. She talked about how very generous Pilita was, especially for budding artists, how she realized the immensity of her mom’s prominence, how she’d been the glue that bound their family together through the years, and how Pilita was just the same person in and out of the spotlight.
“I honor my mom by sharing what she has taught us, I honor my mom by continuing being good in all possible situations,” she declared. “Thank you to ‘ASAP’ for honoring my mom. Thank you so much. This comforts us kahit na papaano in this trying time that you honor her [and] her work.”
