Proving difficult to watch, the November 14 episode of “What Lies Beneath” details Edong’s (Jake Cuenca) abuse of Celestino (Bart Guigona), as he purposely waits for the drunk policeman to appear.
Wearing a dark hoodie and cap that conceal his identity, Edong deliberately bumps into Celestino, who immediately lashes out at him, before Edong drags him to an abandoned house and ties him up.
Edong, armed with a bat, walks slowly toward the waking Celestino, and with enough retaliation still in him, he asserts his superiority just as he did back then. Even as Edong fully reveals himself, Celestino’s shock is fleeting, replaced by a hateful demeanor as he once again degrades the now-adult Edong, asking if this is all for revenge.
In swift succession, Edong begins striking Celestino with the bat—the same way Celestino did when Edong was younger and accused of Louisa’s (Mutya Orquia) murder. With every blow, he relives the past pain, and as Celestino reaches a desperate point, begging for his life, Edong, now apathetic, strangles and beats him to death.
With Celestino slumped on the floor, no longer breathing, Edong turns to the camera and declares that the viewers of the video will be his next targets—primarily Erica (Kaila Estrada), Beth (Charlie Dizon), Alice (Janella Salvador), and Mel (Sue Ramirez).
Erica confronts the locked gates of Bagumbayan Prison
Still high on emotions, Erica (Kaila Estrada) finally arrives at Bagumbayan Prison with Marco (Race Matias) and Lucas (JM de Guzman) tagging along.
In haste, she introduces herself to the guards, attempting to gain entry in search of the elusive Edong (Jake Cuenca). Instead, the jail guards explain the visiting schedule, stating that, even though she has legal authority, she must follow the rules.
Meanwhile, inside, Warden William Ayoc (Paolo Serrano) intimidates the inmates into revealing Edong’s whereabouts—despite them genuinely not knowing. One inmate, trembling, mentions that Edong might be tasked with delivering illegal goods outside again, which infuriates the warden, prompting him to punch the inmate.
Not long after, a higher officer, Prison Warden Wood Morales, calls for Warden Ayoc, explaining that he has just returned to utter chaos. He expresses greater concern over their illegal deliveries and hints that Warden Ayoc could become a scapegoat if the prison authorities’ involvement is questioned.
Frightened, Ayoc vows to resolve everything, while Warden Morales instructs that Edong be dealt with once located.
Alice, Mel, and Beth’s meltdown
Moments later, after Alice (Janella Salvador) screams from the balcony, the hotel staff enters her room, worried. Despite being questioned multiple times, Alice remains in a daze over Edong’s (Jake Cuenca) revelation. Eventually, she stands up and, angrily, shows the staff Edong’s face, warning them never to let him into the hotel.
Also overcome with fear, Mel (Sue Ramirez) alerts Anton (Jameson Blake), who enters her room, seemingly concerned for his wife once again. Finding no sense of safety from him, Mel pushes Anton away. Taken aback, Anton looks at the phone she threw, and despite Mel’s attempt to stop him, he ends up watching the unsettling video Edong (Jake Cuenca) sent.
Back at Amurao’s police station, Locsin informs Beth (Charlie Dizon) and Ryan (Yves Flores) that, after reviewing the CCTV footage from Alice’s house, they were unable to identify the suspect as Edong. A frustrated Ryan insists that it is indeed Edong, prompting Beth to snatch the phone and exclaim that Edong sent her a video—evidence of his involvement.
Bagumbayan Prison is laid bare to the press
Erica (Kaila Estrada) stands firm outside the prison gates, reminding the jail guards that she can file legal charges against them for infidelity in custody of prisoners. Lucas (JM de Guzman) adds that the warden has some explaining to do regarding his brother’s escape.
In disbelief, Erica questions him, reiterating her suspicion that Lucas may have known all along that Edong (Jake Cuenca) could come and go from the prison—and that he might even be bribing the authorities inside.
Lucas strongly denies the claim and is momentarily silenced when she shows him the video Edong sent of Celestino’s (Bart Guigona) murder. Pained, he tells Erica that his brother needs only one year before being set free to reclaim the life he was deprived of.
Erica responds that Edong isn’t after freedom but revenge, while Lucas reasons that all these stem from the injustice they inflicted on his brother.
Usman, the police officer and Edong’s accomplice, helps him escape from prison. As he drives with Edong in the back of the car, he turns on the radio to hear news of Erica’s legal action against Bagumbayan Prison, as well as the launch of the manhunt for Edong. He then drops Edong off at a secluded roadside area.
