Women are indeed worth celebrating! And to mark International Women's Day on March 8 this year, we are honoring every single woman out there as we continue to fight for empowerment and equality.
To make our celebration even more memorable, let’s take a close look at these women in film who have inspired us to stand strong and be courageous in showing that women can overcome anything.
Josie from ‘Anak’
An OFW and a mother, Josie (Vilma Santos) proved that one can never turn her back on being a mom, even if her kids are turning their backs on her. Her unconditional love is something we can all admire and hopefully practice.
Ina from ‘Ang Tanging Ina’
It's not easy to raise twelve kids, much more if you're all alone doing it! Ina Montecillo (Ai Ai de las Alas) tried juggling several jobs — from working in construction to selling bootleg DVDs — just to make ends meet for her family. And she really did an amazing job, with her kids growing up to be the kind and loving persons who value family more than anything else.
Anne from ‘The Unmarried Wife’
There's no one more selfless than Anne (Angelica Panganiban) who would do everything for her child — even if it means she has to compromise with her cheating husband!
Vivian from ‘Everything About Her’
A true lady boss, Vivian (Vilma Santos) worked her way to become the successful woman that she is. She does not need a man who can't accept her strong passion for her dreams, thus, she strived and thrived on her own.
The Salazar sisters from ‘Four Sisters and a Wedding’
Bobbie (Bea Alonzo), Teddie (Toni Gonzaga), Alex (Angel Locsin), and Gabbie (Shaina Magdayao) have different personalities and they do clash at times, but they always got each other's backs whenever one of them needs support. Remember how they all came in full force to take down Chad's (Bernard Palanca) new attitude girl? Yaaas!
Joy from ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye’ and ‘Hello, Love, Again’
Joy Fabregas, portrayed by Kathryn Bernardo, is the epitome of modern Filipino OFWs today. She started working overseas at a young age to help provide for her family's needs in the Philippines. And although she’s struggling, she does not turn her back on her Filipino friends, who also help her get through it all.
