Watching horror films is all fun and games, until you experience yourself how hard it is to mount one.
This is what the "Bloody Crayons" cast and crew had to endure just to pull off all the terrifying scenes in the movie, which they revealed in this 2021 episode of "Secret Movie Files" — an exclusive online series where Star Cinema celebs and creatives spill all the behind-the-scenes tea!
Here are some of the experiences and trivia the "Bloody Crayons" team shared that will make you want to watch the film!
1. The hide-and-seek scene in the basement

The hide-and-seek scene in the basement featuring Janella, Maris, and the killer was something the whole team was very proud of. Director Topel Lee was also able to pull off a first in that scene, which eventually brought so much suspense to viewers.
"Actually kasi 'yung mga scene naman na 'yan, I was thinking kasi kung di ko pa s'ya nakita sa ibang pelikula. And 'yung eksena na may mannequin na nagtakip si Maris, di ko pa 'yun nakikita sa ibang movie. So nung nagawa namin 'yon, I was happy na we were able to create something new," Topel shared.
The scene was so effective that even Ronnie flinched while watching it in the cinemas.
"Napanood namin sa sinehan yan, diyan ako pinakanagulat talaga. Parang Hollywood 'yung datingan 'yung scene diyan," he exclaimed. "'Yung takutan, saktong-sakto sa timing 'yung gulat."
2. The action in the woods
Here's a fun fact: the fog chase scene between Jane and Janella wasn't actually part of the script! It was even one of the last scenes they shot since they only thought of it along the way to add a layer of tension during the final face-off.
Creative manager JP Abellera then revealed their struggles just to pull off the extremely thick fog in the woods during the chase scene.
"'Yung level talaga ng zero visibility. 'Yung talagang, ilang galon ng dry ice ang nilagay namin sa gubat na 'yan sa Rizal para lang maging sobrang foggy, to the point na hindi na makita ni Olivia yung nilalakaran n'ya," he revealed. "At syempre kailangan na talagang kada galaw ni Eunice, sinasabayan n'ya 'yung paa ni Olivia para pag may tunog, ‘di ba sabay do'n sa tunog ng paa ni Olivia para hindi s'ya mahuli."
3. The Bloody Crayons game

The Bloody Crayons game isn't only bloody by name. The scene where they also played the game was bloody on its own too! Direk Topel recalled having to shoot the scene for three days with all the struggles in continuity and having to get shots of each of the characters.
"Kasi diyan lang talaga sila nakuhanan ng kumpleto sila lahat. 'Yung solid na nag-iinteract sila," he recounted. "This time, lahat sila may reactions, so may separate shots. Naalala ko ito 'yung pinakamadugo talaga na scene na kailangan ko makuha lahat ng coverage."
The blaming game that happened afterwards among the barkada was something writer Carmel Jacomille enjoyed in the film: "Kasi 'yun 'yung labasan na ng baho nila eh. So parang yung in-establish mo before, eto parang, hala, nagsisisihan na kayo, ganyan."
