“It’s Showtime” host and comedy superstar Vice Ganda once again proved that he is more than just a source of laughs, as he took home the Best Actor Award at the 73rd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) for his moving portrayal of Bambi Salvador in “And The Breadwinner Is…”

The comedy-drama, helmed by acclaimed directed Jun Robles Lana, was the top-grossing entry at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival, raking in a record-breaking ₱400 million at the box office. Vice played Bambi, an OFW in Taiwan who fakes her own death to save her family from financial ruin, thus delivering one of his most layered performances to date.

“Panalo ni Direk Jun ito, siya ang gumawa sa akin as an actor dito sa ‘And The Breadwinner Is...’ Maraming, maraming salamat Direk Jun Lana,” Vice said as he gave credit to his director, co-actors and Star Cinema in his acceptance speech. He also took the chance to dedicate his win to all the queer kids, sharing that “as a queer person, your possibilities are endless.”

To celebrate Vice’s triumph, here are five behind-the-scenes clips from “And The Breadwinner Is…” that showcase his artistry, professionalism, and undeniable star power.

Vice Ganda’s Bambi comes home from years of sacrifice abroad, only to discover that the house he thought he built doesn’t exist. The raw heartbreak of entering a rundown home is captured perfectly, with Vice controlling every beat of pain without uttering a word. Even in a crowded frame, he commands the audience’s attention with subtle but devastating emotion.

In this tense family meal, Bambi calls out his family’s betrayal. But the BTS reveals a different side: once Direk Jun yells “cut,” Vice instantly lightens the mood with jokes, proving his natural ability to switch between drama and comedy, keeping his co-actors at ease while maintaining the emotional gravity of the scene.

Physical comedy takes center stage as Vice hilariously trips and crawls in mud during a funeral scene. The BTS clip shows his professionalism, throwing himself into the dirt multiple times, consulting with Direk Jun Lana, and ensuring the timing was perfect. Vice proves that slapstick can be elevated when done with full commitment.

Vice shares a heartfelt scene with Eugene Domingo, who plays his sister Baby. The BTS footage shows the two seasoned actors in sync, crafting tension and humor in equal measure. Eugene’s stellar performance also earned her a Best Supporting Actress nomination at FAMAS, making this scene even more significant.

When Vice isn’t in front of the camera, he’s behind it — literally. This clip shows him seated beside Direk Jun, watching scenes intently and sharing laughs with the crew. It’s a glimpse of Vice’s dedication not just as an actor, but as a collaborator invested in the bigger picture of storytelling.

Witness Vice Ganda’s Best Actor-winning turn in “And The Breadwinner Is…”, now streaming on Netflix.

Vice Ganda is set to collaborate once again with Direk Jun in the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Call Me Mother”, this time sharing the screen with Nadine Lustre. For updates and exclusives on “Call Me Mother”, follow Star Cinema on Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube
