The “It’s Showtime” family showered their "Mother" Vice Ganda with love and support as they celebrated the official announcement of her new Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2025 entry “Call Me Mother”, during their July 9 program.
The studio was filled with laughter, cheers, and heartfelt messages as Vice received video greetings from her “anak-anakans”’in showbiz — Awra Briguela, Stell of SB19, Chino Liu, KaladKaren, Jarren Garcia, Jackie, and BINI Maloi — all expressing love and admiration for the comedian-host who has long been a mother figure to many in the industry.
But it was Nadine Lustre, Vice Ganda’s co-star in “Call Me Mother”, who delivered the grand message: “You’re not just ‘Meme’, you’re THE ‘Meme’. You give so much of yourself to the people you love, to your work, and of course, to all the madlang pipol. I’m so excited to be working with you again after ten years. I already know this reunion will be something very special.”
Vice Ganda, clearly moved, teared up with a smile as she watched the surprise greetings. She also shared how it is an honor for her to be called “Meme” by everyone.
“I am your Mother. I am your imperfect mother who will always be willing to care and love for all my children,” she endearingly said.
As if the moment couldn’t get any more special, acclaimed director Jun Robles Lana made a surprise appearance on stage. He thanked the audience for their support for last year’s MMFF hit “And The Breadwinner Is…”
“Dito sa ‘Call Me Mother’, tinatalakay namin kung ano ba talaga ang ibig sabihin ng pagiging ina. Susundan natin ang karakter ni Meme, at kung paano niya kailangang paulit-ulit na patunayan na ang pagiging ina ay wala sa dugo, wala sa kasarian, kundi nasa pusong handang lumaban at magsakripisyo,” Direk Jun boldly stated when asked what “Call Me Mother” is about.
The co-hosts joined in on the celebration, joking that they’re already organizing a private screening for the movie. Anne Curtis, in true “It’s Showtime” fashion, added with a laugh, “Hindi na sisterette ang itatawag ko sa ’yo kundi Mother!”
“Call Me Mother” marks Vice Ganda’s second consecutive MMFF collaboration with Jun Robles Lana, following the success of last year’s “And The Breadwinner Is…” The movie will open in cinemas nationwide on December 25 as part of the much-awaited film festival.
