Taylor Swift has opened up about how she is handling the mixed reactions to her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
"I welcome the chaos. The rule of show business is it's the first week of my album release and you are saying either my name or my album title, you're helping,” she pointed out.
The global pop star also highlighted that she respects everyone's views about her record. "And art, I have a lot of respect for people's subjective opinions on art. I'm not the art police. It's like everybody is allowed to feel exactly how they want. And what our goal is as entertainers is to be a mirror," she stated.
Taylor remarked that a listener's personal experiences often shape how they interpret an album. "Oftentimes, an album is a really, really wild way to look at yourself. What you’re going through in your life is going to affect whether you relate to the music that I'm putting out at any given moment," she said.
The singer shared that over the years, some fans have shifted their views on her records as their personal experiences evolved.
"What I often love seeing my fans say is, 'I used to be someone who didn't relate with Reputation, and now that I've been through some other things in my life, that's my favorite album.' Or, 'I used to be like a Fearless girlie, now I'm obsessed with Evermore," she relayed.
Taylor stressed that she always thinks long term when creating music. "We're doing this thing for keeps. I have such an eye on legacy when I'm making my music. I know what I made. I know I adore it, and I know that on the theme of what the Showgirl is, all of this is part of it," she stated.
The Life of a Showgirl was released on October 3.
"I can't tell you how proud I am to share this with you, an album that just feels so right. A forever thank you goes out to my mentors and friends Max and Shellback for helping me paint this self portrait. If you thought the big show was wild, perhaps you should come and take a look behind the curtain," she said in an Instagram post on the day of the album release.
