The powerhouse pairing of IU and Byeon Woo-seok finally arrived on screens as the highly anticipated Korean series Perfect Crown premiered Friday night, April 10, on Disney+ Philippines.
During a special screening held earlier this week, several celebrities expressed their excitement over the series and its lead stars. For one, Kapamilya actress Vivoree Esclito praised the drama for its mix of depth and romance, noting how the pilot episode quickly drew her in.
She said, “Sobrang interesting niya kasi the first few minutes of the series, talagang I was very focused kasi there was a lot of information that I had to digest because I didn’t really know about the royal family in Korea. But I’m glad that they were able to really tackle deeply, kumbaga kung ano talagang nangyayari sa royal family, and how important it is ‘yung mga roles nila.
“And, the second half of the episode, sobrang nakakakilig na siya kasi dati ko pa talaga nilu-look forward ‘yung magkatambalan si IU and si Byeon Woo-seok, and it finally happened, hindi ako nadisappoint.
“I had a long K-drama phase so it’s really nice to get back into it again, and I think Perfect Crown is the perfect series for me to go back into watching K-dramas,” she added.
Actor-entrepreneur Richard Juan also shared his excitement for the series, saying he has long looked forward to the lead duo’s pairing. “For me, honestly, this is something that I’ve been waiting for, for a long time. Byeon Woo-seok, IU – crazy combo. Their chemistry in the trailer was incredible so I can’t wait to see how this is going to pan out. We just saw the first episode, and there’s so many more episodes coming, it’s going to be crazy so catch it, guys,” he said.
Another Kapamilya celebrity, Kaori Oinuma, said she is excited to watch the series as a longtime fan of IU. “Super [excited]. I’m a fan of IU, si Byeon Woo-seok, napapanood ko na siya before,” she began. “And as a fan of IU... ever since bata ako siya pinapanood ko, excited ako kung anong story meron itong Perfect Crown.” Praising IU, she added, “Ang galing niyang umiyak, ang galing niyang umarte.”
Kaori added that she has been a fan of K-dramas since she was a child, citing 2521 alongside Dream High and When Life Gives You Tangerines, among her favorites, with romantic comedy as her preferred genre.
A romantic comedy, Perfect Crown stars IU (Hotel Del Luna, When Life Gives You Tangerines) and Byeon Woo-seok (Strong Girl Nam-soon, Lovely Runner). It follows Grand Prince I-AN, a well-loved royal who agrees to a marriage of convenience with Huiju, a wealthy heiress, due to pressure to settle down. What starts as a practical arrangement becomes more complicated as real feelings begin to develop between them. New episodes air every Friday and Saturday at 10:20 p.m., leading up to the series finale on May 16.
