Cha Eun-woo and Arden Cho have teamed up for a cover of the hit track "Free" from the animated film KPop Demon Hunters.
Netflix released the duet on Sunday, July 27.
'Free" is a ballad from the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, performed by characters Rumi and Jinu. The song captures their emotional bond and longing for freedom, making it one of the movie's most moving musical moments.
Arden voices the character Rumi in the series.
Fans online were quick to react to the song cover.
"Eun-woo’s voice comes from heaven and blends so well with Arden’s sweet voice. This cover is magical and I can’t stop listening to it in a loop," one fan commented.
"The voices sounds so gooood! Jinu and Rumi came to life👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻," another fan posted.
In a vlog uploaded to her YouTube channel, Arden shared the story behind the collaboration with Eun-woo, who is her longtime friend. The two met five years ago.
"He looks so much like Jinu and I thought that it would be really fun and special if we did a collaboration," Arden relayed. "This is our first time [doing something together]."
She recalled that the idea came to her while she was set to do a press tour in Korea.
"We were texting about KPop Demon Hunters and when we were talking about the movie and I mentioned I was coming to Korea to do some press we were like would it be fun if we covered it," Arden recalled.
Eun-woo admitted that the song was challenging to perform, but he's a huge fan of it. "I love all the songs especially I love 'Free,' Jinu and Rumi's part," he stated.
K-Pop Demon Hunters centers on global K-pop stars Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), who lead double lives as demon hunters, secretly protecting their fans from supernatural threats. Their greatest challenge arises with the arrival of The Saja Boys, a rival idol group hiding a demonic secret.
The film features vibrant animation by Sony Pictures Animation with a pulse-pounding soundtrack featuring an original score by acclaimed composer Marcelo Zarvos.
