Kapamilya actor Gerald Anderson is both excited and grateful for his upcoming crime-thriller drama Sins of The Father, set to premiere on June 23.

During the recent media conference and series preview, Gerald shared that he always aims to be part of projects that viewers can relate to and learn from.

“Nakakataba sa puso. Like laging nirerequest sa ABS-CBN na sana kapag may proyekto po ako, sana may social awareness and sana may napupulot na aral yung mga tao kapag pinanood nila because maraming distraction these days, maraming scamming, sa social media, we have influence,” Gerald shared.

Having the opportunity to star in another series focusing on social issues of today, he wanted to use his platform to give his all and promote awareness.

“When I’m given an opportunity like this, talagang binibigay ko ang best ko. Whenever we get the opportunity and blessings, I’ll make the most out of it,” Gerald said.

In the new series, Gerald plays Samuel Trinidad, a bank manager whose life turns upside down after discovering that his estranged father is involved in a large-scale scam.

He emphasized the importance of telling stories about real-life issues like scamming, which many people experience but are often hesitant to talk about.

“Ibang-iba siya. More than just the character, it’s the story itself. Our bigger purpose for the show is to make people aware na nangyayari talaga ito. Kaya nakakarelate ang maraming tao kasi if it’s not you, may kakilala kayo na nangyari sa kanila ang gabnitong kuwento,” he expressed.

“Prevention is the best eh kasi minsan pag na-scam ka hindi mo na makita yung mga tao nangscam sa iyo.”

He went on: “I’m actually motivated kasi alam ko na may mauuwi sila every episode and may bago kayong matutunan. Eye opener siya. When you are watching it para siyang open forum para mawala yung stigma na nangyari rin sa akin na I should speak up. Because of the show, mawawala yung stigma at takot.”

Now in his 19th year in the entertainment industry, Gerald shared how working on Sins of The Father challenged and strengthened his acting skills.

“19 years ago, kahit siguro two or three years ago feeling ko hindi ko kakayanin ito. Sabi ko kanina, they make me look good. I just come to set as prepared as possible pero iba talaga yung guidance nila. I gave it all to them,” he said, expressing gratitude to the directors, production team, and fellow cast members.

“Yung writing is so beautiful. Yung story, very intelligent and kakaiba. In terms of Samuel Trinidad, aaminin ko na isa ito sa pinaka-challenging talaga but at the same time this is the most I’ve ever learned in terms of acting because of Direk FMR,” he added.

“It’s my 19th year sa industriya. Next year will be my 20th and kasalukuyan we are also preparing for the next show. I can only imagine what we are able to do and ano ang pwede ko ibigay dahil sa natutunan ko sa show na ito.”

In a previous interview with PUSH, Gerald described the series as a major departure from his past roles, as it takes on a socially relevant crime-thriller theme.

“It’s a story that will shed awareness, because nangyayari talaga ito every day. Sabi ko nga kanina, at least may isang segment sa TV Patrol o sa TV5 (news) or sa ibang news channels about yung storyline namin. Just want to shed more social awareness sa nangyayari, and give them a quality product,” he shared.

Gerald also expressed excitement to collaborate with Director FM Reyes, whom he has long admired.

“Pinaka-excited ako siyempre to work with FM. Nakakataba ng puso na gusto niya akong makatrabaho. Matagal ko na rin siyang gustong makatrabaho because of the dedication na binibigay niya. ‘Pag medyo mahirap yung taping namin, medyo long hours, when you see someone dedicated like that, mas ma-pupush ka at mas nabibigyan ka rin ng motivation.” he stated.

Sins of The Father is set to premiere on June 23, Monday, at 9:30 p.m. on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), A2Z, TV5, iWant, and TFC.
