HBO has announced the lead actors for its upcoming Harry Potter series.
On Tuesday, May 27, the streaming giant unveiled the names of the cast for the much-anticipated show.
"Dear Mr. Potter, Miss Granger, and Mr. Weasley: We are pleased to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," HBO wrote.
"Please welcome Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley to the HBO Original Series Harry Potter."
As per report by Variety, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod expressed in a statement their excitement for the audiences to see the magic of the lead cast on the screen.
"After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen," they said.
They also extended their gratitude to everyone who auditioned for the roles. "We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there," they said.
The previous Harry Potter movie franchise was headlined by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. The first film in the franchise titled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was released in 2001. The film follows the story of a "an orphaned boy [who] enrolls in a school of wizardry, where he learns the truth about himself, his family and the terrible evil that haunts the magical world," as per its IMDb.
According to a report by Deadline, the Harry Potter series will start shooting this year. "This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years," Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO & Max Content, remarked. He also guaranteed fans that the show will be "a faithful adaptation" to the books.
The target release of the show is either 2026 or 2027.
