Netflix has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The teaser follows Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), and Sokka (Ian Ousley) as they move forward after their hard-won defense of the Northern Water Tribe against the Fire Nation. With the threat of Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim) still looming, the trio sets out on a new mission, to seek the support of the mysterious Earth King in the growing war.
As seen in the teaser, season 2 will also mark the live-action debut of Toph Beifong, portrayed by Miya Cech. As per Netflix Tudum, a beloved character in the original animated series, Toph is a blind Earthbending prodigy who eventually joins the Gaang. Though often underestimated because of her size and disability, she has a distinctive combat style and immense power, signaling her arrival as a force to be reckoned with.
Fans online were quick to react to the teaser.
"I'm so excited for this. Now we finally get to meet Toph," one fan commented.
"That effect when Toph senses the ground is fantastic," another fan wrote.
Back in March 2024, Netflix announced that Avatar: The Last Airbender had been renewed for two more seasons. This comes after the huge success of the first season which was watched by millions of subscribers worldwide.
Seasons 2 and 3 were shot consecutively. Netflix later revealed in November that production on the third season had officially wrapped.
"When we started working on Season 2, we gathered three forces: integrity, hope, and joy. And here we are almost three years later wrapping the end of production with an immensely talented and devoted team that met those ideals and exceeded them," executive producer and writer Christine Boylan said in an interview with Tudum.
He added: "I am eternally grateful to be part of this important, hilarious, action-packed team who is bringing this epic live action story to the world."
In May, Netflix also announced that Filipino actress Dolly de Leon had joined the cast as twins Lo and Li, the Firebending mentors of Azula, the Fire Nation's princess.
"I'm extremely excited and honored to be part of an iconic live action version of an animated cult classic. It’' my first time to play twins, which is the best fun in a creative process. It’s a dream come true," the Golden Globe-nominated actress remarked.
Previously speaking to PUSH ABS-CBN in May, Dolly shared that the role felt especially meaningful as she was already a longtime fan of the series.
"Nung pandemic ng 2020 I watched it so I was very familiar with the series. Pinanuod ko lahat. Pinanuod ko yung buong animated series. Pinanuod ko rin yung live-action. Nag binge watch ako. Sobrang ganda," she confessed.
Other new cast members of season 2 include Chin Han as Long Feng; Hoa Xuande as Professor Zei; Justin Chien as King Kuei; Amanda Zhou as Joo Dee; Crystal Yu as Lady Beifong; Kelemete Misipeka as The Boulder; Lourdes Faberes as General Sung; Rekha Sharma as Amita; Terry Chen as Jeong Jeong; Lily Gao as Ursa; Madison Hu as Fei; and Dichen Lachman as Yangchen.
