MANILA — Survival reality show “Time to Dance” marks several firsts for New Gen Dance Champ Gela Atayde.
The actress will make her hosting debut in the competition alongside seasoned Kapamilya host Robi Domingo.
“I am so proud of her,” Domingo said during the media conference held in Quezon City, Thursday. “Yung puso ni Gela grabe. Umiiyak every may elimination, iiyak na namam si Gela. But its how she shows her heart.”
Atayde was also able to record her first song, as she lent her voice to perform the theme of the upcoming offering with Kyle Echarri.
“I messaged Kyle after, I said I have a song with Kyle Exharri. Sina Jonathan Manalo nag push sa akin, Ang pinasok ko pag aartista, di lang pala,” she said.
As she promoted the show, Atayde also marked her debut as a Star Patroller for TV Patrol.
“I never thought I would be in TV Patrol. I grew up watching it,” she enthused. “I am really grateful.”
Atayde, however, highlighted that “It’s Time to Dance,” which she described as her passion project, is all about the talented dancers as well as the dance community.
“I wanted to do this, I wanted to help those who want to learn and explore dance as well as to inspire,” she explained.
“I have teammates that were not financially stable to fly with us… that was when the realization that hit me I want to help because I am privileged enough to. Nabuo siya because of the heart and passion,” she added.
Apart from showcasing the talents of the 17 dance hopefuls, “Time to Dance” aims to convey their journey behind the scenes.
“We can see the passion of Gela and all the different kinds of personalities and walk of life doon. We usually get to know them pag champion na but we rarely see the journey and grabe paghihirap na hinaharap nila,” Domingo explained.
The Dance Council, consisting of Coach Vimi Rivera and Ken San Jose, said the contestants will solely be judged for their skill and creativity.
“As a performer you need to use your moves and tell a story,” San Jose said.
“You have to be the best at what you do. You need to be competitive,” Rivera added.
“Time to Dance” will premiere on Jan. 18, Saturday.
