This comedic line was spoken by Girlie (Vice Ganda), in the 2013 hit comedy film Girl, Boy, Bakla,Tomboy, directed by the late Wenn V. Deramas.
The story begins with Pia (Maricel Soriano) who gave birth to quadruplets Peter, Girlie, Mark, and Panying (all portrayed by Vice Ganda).
Not long after, the siblings are separated when their father, Pete (Joey Marquez), leaves for the United States. His wealthy mother, Amparo (Joy Viado), refuses to accept Pia as her daughter-in-law and takes two of the babies to America.

Raised in different worlds, the siblings grow up with completely opposite lives.
Peter and Girlie enjoy a privileged upbringing abroad, while Mark and Panying remain in the Philippines with Pia, growing up with far more modest means.
Years later, fate forces the family back together.
Peter falls seriously ill with Hepatitis C and urgently needs a liver transplant, prompting Pete to bring his family back to the Philippines in search of a compatible donor among the quadruplets. At the same time, Pia also moves her family to Manila to seek better treatment for Panying, who is battling anemia.
Before the long-awaited reunion happens, another problem unfolds.
Determined to help his family financially, Mark looks for work in a shopping mall. Desperate, he attempts to shoplift several wristwatches from a store.
Although security cameras catch the incident, Mark manages to escape before authorities could imprison him.
Unfortunately, someone else ends up paying for his mistake.
Because Girlie happens to be shopping at the same mall and bears the exact same face as Mark, security officers mistakenly arrest her, believing she is the shoplifter caught on CCTV.
After Peter manages to bail Girlie out, both families finally gather under one roof for the first time since the siblings were separated as babies.
But what begins as a long-awaited reunion quickly turns emotional.
Peter asks Mark if he could be a liver donor who can save his life, since he is the most healthy and compatible among the siblings. Feeling that the family only sought him out because they needed something from him, Mark angrily rejects the idea.

During the heated confrontation, Girlie suddenly notices that Mark perfectly matches the description of the mysterious shoplifter the authorities have been looking for.
Realizing what had happened, she blurts out the line that would become one of the film's most unforgettable comedic moments: “Goodness gracious! Ikaw 'yung nag shop-lift! You are the one caught stealing on the CCTV!”
The scene instantly became a fan favorite, thanks not only to the line itself but also to Vice Ganda's exaggerated delivery, expressive facial reactions, and Girlie's over-the-top personality.
Dressed in her iconic black-and-white striped top, red skirt, oversized accessories, and blonde wig, Girlie's dramatic realization transformed an ordinary revelation into one of the funniest moments in the film.
Over the years, "Goodness Gracious!" has evolved beyond the movie itself.
For many viewers, it has become an everyday expression used whenever something shocking, unexpected, hilarious, or unbelievable happens. Its popularity found a new wave of audiences in 2026 as clips from the film resurfaced across TikTok.

Users began recreating the famous scene, with many going as far as wearing Girlie's signature costume and wig to imitate Vice Ganda's performance. Others adopted "Goodness Gracious!" as a reaction phrase for moments of surprise, excitement, and even happiness.
Beyond the viral line, Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy also showcased Vice Ganda's versatility as a performer.
In one film, Vice successfully portrayed four distinct siblings Mark, Peter, Girlie, and Panying, each with their own gender, personalities, mannerisms, and comedic style, highlighting the comedian's range beyond punchlines alone.
The renewed popularity even reached Vice, himself. Following his highly anticipated return to It's Showtime after several weeks away last April, the comedian surprised viewers by wearing Girlie's iconic outfit and recreating the beloved scene on the noontime program.
As he showed how the costume and look was put together in another video, Vice Ganda also expressed happiness that younger audiences were rediscovering the films of the late Wenn Deramas.
“Nagre-resurface 'yung mga pelikula niya. Meron nga akong article na nabasa, top 10 Wenn Deramas movies. Ang taray kasi inaalala nila si Wenn Deramas. I am so happy for my mother,” she remarked.

The film has likewise enjoyed renewed success online.
Since becoming available on Star Cinema's official YouTube channel, Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy has accumulated more than 14 million views, with viewers continuing to revisit the comedy over a decade after its theatrical release.
