Kapamilya actress Jennica Garcia shared how important it is to teach children the importance of consent and what they can do to avoid any danger in the future. The Saving Grace star expressed her thoughts in the recent episode of Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast where they discussed the film Sunshine, where she is part of the cast.
Jennica plays the role of Geleen, the older sister of Maris Racal in Sunshine.

She expressed how conversations about sex should be normalized and revealed that she began talking about it with her children at a young age.
“How it should start not just in school but start in our homes… I started talking to them about sex at the age of three,” she shared.
The celebrity mom taught her two daughters the importance of consent as it allows them to be educated on the topic and she is assured that they know what to do if an unfortunate event comes their way.
“Very particular ako sa kanila what their private parts are, how it shouldn’t be touched–– no one should touch it–– these are sacred parts of your body. I-educate natin yung mga bata na kailangan alam nila yun. I try to tell them, babae o lalaki, hindi pwedeng humahawak sa chest, hindi pwede sa vagina, hindi pwede sa pwet–– hindi pwede ifeel,” she added.
Jennica admitted that it’s the parents’ responsibility to make sure that topics such as this become less scary on the children’s end.

“Kung nakakatakot yun, mas nakakatakot kung hindi natin pag uusapan. Sobrang bilis lang nun eh, yung mga ganun klaseng instances, isang pitik wala na,” she continued.
The Sunshine actress then reminded how it’s also a perfect opportunity to remind children that not everyone they meet has good intentions for them. She added this is how she introduced her faith as well to her children as she accepted that she can’t explain everything.
“Not everyone is good. Sometimes there are people who pretend that they are but they have dark hearts, they have dark minds, and we can also take that opportunity to explain to them that there is a reason why these things happen is because we live in a broken world,” she shared.
Sunshine is currently showing in 35 cinemas nationwide as of this writing and is exclusive to SM Cinemas only. The film stars Kapamilya star Maris Racal who plays the titular role and is written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone.
