Filipina athlete Alex Eala expressed her gratitude after bowing out of the first round of the Roland-Garros competition earlier this week in the Women’s Singles. This was her first time to be included in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament as she’s ranked 69 in the world.

Alex lost to Colombian tennis player Emiliana Arango with the scores 0-6, 6-2, and 3-6 to the surprise of her fans.

The Filipina tennis star shared some snaps of herself while playing at the 2025 French Open.

“First Grand Slam main draw in the books,” she wrote.

Despite the loss in the Women’s Singles, Alex is set to play the Women’s Doubles of Roland-Garros alongside Mexican star Renata Zarazua, this coming May 28.

“Back to the drawing board for now, but will come back stronger next time. See you for doubles,” she ended.

Fans of the athlete shared their heartfelt congratulatory messages in the comment section despite losing in the first round of the prestigious competition. Other fans added that they’re excited for her promising career.

“You got this,” Filipino Olympian EJ Obiena wrote.

“We have your back all the way. There is no other way but for you to do better... I’m always proud of you! Seize the world,” a fan shared.

“Not a bad showing at all! Lots of grit to come out fighting after that first set! Be proud! Good luck with doubles! Can’t wait to see you on the hard courts in New York,” another fan added.

Alex surprised the world earlier this year after beating world no. 2 Iga Świątek at the quarterfinals of the Miami Open in straight sets. She has since then improved her world ranking and has been the talk of the town.

She previously became the first Filipino tennis player to win a junior Grand Slam back in 2022 at the US Open.
