CANDON, Ilocos Sur — Mayor Eric Singson vowed Saturday that people of Candon will be there to support Alas Pilipinas in its final game at the 2026 AVC Women’s Cup.
Alas Women were eliminated from semifinals contention after a 16-25, 14-25, 10-25 loss to Chinese Taipei in Pool A on Thursday at the Candon City Arena here.
They also settled for the seventh-place match against Iran after Australia clinched the third seed of their group, beating Uzbekistan, 25-20, 28-30, 25-16, 25-8, on Friday.

As the hometown heroes eye to finish the 12-nation tilt on a high note, Singson said that the all-out support will be there for the Philippine women’s national volleyball team.
“Kahit na they lost three games, the people will be here to support them, still. I’m sure of that,” said Singson.
The Philippines will tackle Iran on Sunday morning. First serve is scheduled at 9:30 a.m.

AVC president Ramon Suzara also hailed Candon city government’s hosting of the continental tilt, calling it “historic.”
“I think it’s a historic hosting, with Mayor Eric Singson here. It’s not so easy to host 12 teams in the AVC Cup, so I’d like to thank, from the bottom of my heart — and the Asian Volleyball Confederation, also the four board members here — for the excellent hosting,” said Suzara.
