MANILA (UPDATED) — Adamson University made quick work of Ateneo de Manila University to stay in the top four picture in the second round of UAAP Season 88 women's volleyball.
Shaina Nitura led the Lady Falcons to a 25-17, 27-25, 25-16 victory over the Blue Eagles on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, marking their fifth win in nine games.
The star sophomore finished with 25 points, 15 receptions, and two digs as Adamson overtook University of Santo Tomas in the standings despite identical records, holding a slim 16-15 edge in points.
Also contributing was Frances Mordi, who finished with 15 points, 12 receptions, and three digs, while Fhei Sagaysay tallied seven excellent sets, along with 10 digs and four points.
Still, Lady Falcons head coach JP Yude called for consistency, as they have yet to post back-to-back wins in their campaign so far.
"Kailangan naming mag-grind at todo hard work kasi nga crucial games na yung natitira," he said, as Adamson displayed composure just when Ateneo threatened to steal the second set. "Kailangang maging mentally tough when it comes to handling situations."
On the other hand, while the Blue Eagles showed signs of promise in the second frame, this, along with the nine points apiece from Alex Montoro and Zel Tsunashima, were not enough as Ateneo absorbed its eighth loss in nine games.
