MANILA — Eya Laure was sidelined from Premier Volleyball League (PVL) action for nearly two years.
She endured a grueling situation of not competing professionally due to complications in her contract with her former team, Chery Tiggo.
Despite this, she stayed in shape, all thanks to her trainings with the national team and even with her alma mater, the University of Santo Tomas (UST).
"Salamat sa mga coaches ko. Salamat sa mga coaches ko sa UST, sa national team. Sa national team, kasi ang tagal nila ako trinaining mag-isa, hanggang sa maka-keep up ako sa mga leagues ng Alas. Tiniyaga talaga nila ako, sila 'yung bumuo ulit na ng kumpiyansa ko," said Laure as she opened up on her hiatus.

"Tiniyaga talaga nila ako; sila 'yung bumuo ulit na ng kumpiyansa ko, at times na sobrang nagtataka ako or nawiwinindang ako ganyan," added Laure, thanking her coaches.
Laure also shut tuned out the noise to preserve her mental health.
"Siguro, pinakaimportante 'yung mga taong nasa paligid ko. Pangalawa, hindi talaga ako masyadong nagso-social media. Nagpo-post lang ako ng gusto kong i-post, pero sa comments, hindi ako nagbabasa ng comments kasi hindi naman siya makakatulong sa mental health ko," said the now-Choco Mucho Flying Titan.
Laure signed with the Flying Titans earlier this year. And when it's time for her debut, she made a statement—that she and Sisi Rondina can lead Choco Mucho to greater heights.
Laure registered 11 points in her first game with Choco Mucho, as they swept Akari, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20, on Saturday.
"I think after SEA Games," answered Laure when asked when she had finally decided to go with Choco Mucho.
"Sabi ko talaga sa sarili ko, 'wait lang muna.' Si Ate Sisi lang talaga kasi parang nandun siya lagi everywhere [nagko-convince]. Kaya sabi ko, 'wait lang talaga Ate Si.' Pero after SEA Games, doon ako nakipag-usap, I mean yung manager ko rin," she said.
Admittedly, Laure is still jelling with the team—but if the stars align, the former Tigress believes Choco Mucho can win it all.
"Andoon ako sa adjusting period pa rin sa sistema ni coach Dante [Alinsunurin], and ako naninwala ako sa sistema ni coach Dante—na 'pag nakapa ko siya, mag-jell at mabuo lahat, kayang makuha yung title ngayon para sa Choco Mucho."
