MANILA -- Farm Fresh grabbed a breakthrough triumph in the PVL on Tour on Saturday, turning back Choco Mucho in a competitive four-set affair at the Capital Arena in Ilagan City, Isabela.
Behind a superb effort from Trisha Tubu, the Foxies recovered from a slow start and showed their grit in coming away with a 23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 26-24 result -- their first win of the competition, and their first victory over the Flying Titans after four tries.
Tubu earned Player of the Game honors after putting up 22 points on 16 kills, three blocks, and three aces, while Jolina dela Cruz added 18 points and Caitlin Viray scored 10.
"Unti-unti kaming nabubuo ngayon, nagiging solid kami, at naniniwala kami sa sistema," said Tubu. "Nagtitiwala lang kami sa isa't isa."
The Foxies saved three set points in the opener before Cherry Nunag's quick hit gave the Flying Titans a 1-0 advantage. But Farm Fresh immediately turned the match around, dominating Choco Mucho in the second set to knot the count.
In a nip-and-tuck third frame, three straight errors by the Flying Titans pushed Farm Fresh in control, 24-21. A clutch hit by Isa Molde and an ace from rookie Jen Villegas kept Choco Mucho alive, but Tubu went down-the-line for the winner that put them in control, 2-1.
Farm Fresh looked as though they would cruise to victory in the fourth set, going up 21-17 on a Tubu ace. But Choco Mucho skipper Desiree Cheng came alive late, scoring three straight kills to force a 22-all deadlock.
A Viray attack put Farm Fresh at match point, 24-23, but Villegas showed no fear of the moment in drilling a hit from the middle for a 24-24 deuce. Viray again came to the rescue for Farm Fresh, powering another attack off the Choco Mucho blockers for their second match point, 25-24.
The Foxies' net defense then secured the win, as Tubu and Lorene Toring teamed up to reject Mary Anne Mendrez in the final rally.
The Foxies are now 1-1 in Group A of the PVL on Tour, while Choco Mucho dropped their second straight match and are now at 1-2.
Molde led Choco Mucho with 13 points while Cheng finished with 10. But the Flying Titans sputtered on offense, tallying only 38 kills to Farm Fresh's 51.
The Foxies, meanwhile, got away with an error-strewn outing that saw them give up 39 points off their unforced errors, 12 of which came in the third set alone.
