Des Cheng preaches patience as Choco Mucho 'regroups' ahead of PVL on Tour

MANILA -- Newly minted Choco Mucho captain Des Cheng said they are taking things one step at a time, emphasizing the importance of patience, chemistry, and steady preparations ahead of the PVL on Tour.

Cheng took the reins from Sisi Rondina, who is now focusing on beach volleyball.

“As you know, nagre-ready po kami every day,” Cheng said. “Lagi pong sinasabi sa amin, day by day lahat.”

With new faces joining, Cheng is excited with the work ahead. In the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft, Choco Mucho selected Tia Andaya and Jen Villegas, both with promising caliber as a playmaker and middle blocker, respectively.

They also signed Adamson University spiker Ayesha Juegos.

“We have three rookies, so we’re just really taking our time to regroup again,” Cheng noted.

Their current training sessions are back to basics and most importantly on: “[Pag]kilala po namin sa sarili namin.”

While fans might be eager to see how Choco Mucho performs, Cheng kept expectations grounded.

“Mindset is always like, we’re gonna play kung ano ‘yung nilalaro namin. We’re gonna give our best talaga,” the product of De La Salle University said.

She refrained from making bold predictions, instead choosing to highlight the team’s ongoing development.

“I don’t wanna say anything about expectations because our team is still regrouping.”

“We’re excited po na ma-meet ‘yung mga fans na hindi nakakapunta ng Manila to watch our games,” Cheng said.

Choco Mucho’s upcoming matches in Batangas starting June 28 to give provincial fans a chance to watch their idols in action.

The team is also supported by Allianz, a key sponsor that has backed two other teams in the league — Creamline Cool Smashers and Criss Cross King Crunchers.

“We are very grateful,” Cheng said. “Nakakalaro kami with confidence because of them. It’s an honor to be part of this partnership.”
