Mary Anne Rivera for ABS-CBN NewsFilipina tennis star Alex Eala wrapped up her maiden stint in Roland Garros on Friday, after she and partner Renata Zarazúa bowed out in the second round of the women's doubles.
Eala and Mexico's Zarazúa absorbed a 1-6, 3-6 loss to Russia's Anastasia Potapova and Serbia's Olga Danilović, marking their exit from the 2025 French Open.
Potapova and Danilović fired 30 winners to just 10 for Eala and Zarazúa, while also forcing them into 21 errors.
After falling behind 0-4, Eala and Zarazúa came alive to win back-to-back games and put some pressure on their opponents.
Potapova and Danilović recovered to take a 5-2 lead, but they fell prey to errors in the eighth game to give Eala and Zarazúa some hope, 5-3.
That was the closest that Eala and Zarazúa would get, however, as back-to-back errors from Eala handed Potapova and Danilović the win after an hour and five minutes in Court 6.
Eala had written more sporting history for the Philippines last Tuesday, when she and Zarazúa defeated Britain's Emily Appleton and Spain's Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers 7-5, 6-4 -- the first Grand Slam match win for a Filipino woman.
The 20-year-old had earlier bowed out of the singles draw in the first round after losing to Emiliana Arango of Colombia, 0-6, 6-2, 3-6.

The pair of Potapova and Danilović will play Slovakia's Tereza Mihalíková and Great Britain's Olivia Nicholls in the third round.
