MANILA -- The NLEX Road Warriors preserved their perfect record in the PBA Governors' Cup with a hard-earned 88-83 win over TNT, Tuesday evening at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Import Daquan Jones led the way as the Road Warriors improved to 6-0 in Group A, while the Tropang 5G dropped to 3-3.
TNT missed the services of several key players, including Jordan Heading, Calvin Oftana and Roger Pogoy, but still pushed the Road Warriors to the limit.
They worked their way back from a 17-point deficit and trailed by just two points, 85-83, with still over two minutes left off a Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson bucket.
But the Tropang 5G's execution sputtered in crunch time. Robert Bolick forced a turnover on Kim Aurin, and while NLEX could not convert on the possession, TNT also misfired on the other end.
Missed shots by Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser and Rey Nambatac forced the Tropang 5G to send Schonny Winston to the line, where he made both shots for an 87-83 lead.
Off a timeout, TNT again faltered with Aurin turning the ball over due to pressure from Winston. A split at the line by Bolick with 1.7 seconds left was enough to ice the game.
Jones had 27 points and seven rebounds while Bolick finished with 10 points on 4-of-12 shooting.
Hollis-Jefferson had 22 points in the loss, while Nambatac was limited to 13 points on 4-of-14 shooting.
