MANILA — Several games scheduled for Monday, March 2, in the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers were postponed as tensions in the Middle East rose.
FIBA decided to reschedule "light of the developments today in the region," it said in a statement on Sunday.
United States and Israel launched waves of strikes Saturday against targets in Iran, sparking swift retaliation by the Islamic republic, according to a report by Agence France-Presse.

The impacted games were Group C matches between Iran vs. Syria, and Iraq vs. Jordan, as well as Group D affairs between Lebanon vs. India, and Qatar vs. Saudi Arabia.
The governing body for basketball said it is in "close contact with the National Federations concerned," in relation to the assuring of safety of the teams, officials and staff involved in those games.

The games affected will now take place sometime in the third window of the qualifiers, "set for late June."
