MANILA (UPDATE) — Typhoon Tino has intensified further as it moves over the West Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau said.
In its 11 p.m. Wednesday weather bulletin, PAGASA said Tino was last located 225 kilometers northeast of Pag-asa Island, Kalayaan, Palawan, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts of up to 185 kph.
It is moving west northwestward at 25 kph.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 remains hoisted over Kalayaan Islands, while the rest of Palawan including Calamian Islands remain under Signal No. 1.
Heavy rainfall is expected over Palawan until Thursday afternoon due to the typhoon.
PAGASA said Tino will continue moving west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility Wednesday night or early morning Thursday.
Aside from Tino, PAGASA is also monitoring a weather disturbance outside PAR.
The potential super typhoon could make landfall over Central or Northern Luzon, the state weather bureau said.
At 11 p.m. Wednesday, the tropical depression was located 1,770 km east of northeastern Mindanao.
It was packing winds of 55 kph with up to 70 kph gusts. It was moving eastward at 15 kph.
It is forecast to enter PAR late Friday or early morning Saturday and will be assigned the domestic name "Uwan."
