MANILA — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon on Thursday announced that he had relieved from his post the district engineer of the Camarines Sur First District Engineering Office.

Dizon said the crash was caused by the lack of adequate road safety warning signs and traffic safety devices along an ongoing road construction project in Barangay Magais in Del Gallego.

Three people were hurt, some of whom are currently getting treated in the ICU.

“It’s unacceptable so kailangan may managot dito,” said Dizon.

“We already ordered districts and regions nationwide na kailangan maging very very strict tayo sa standards ng safety… Kung yan hindi susundin, in some cases, buhay ang kapalit niyan,” he added.

According to the DPWH, the contractor will also be held accountable.

“We will be filing the necessary complaints against the contractor and, obviously, mananagot yung kontratista sa gastos din nung pamilya… Responsibilidad ng kontratista yun, na maglagay ng tamang safety signs,” said Dizon.

OPLAN KONTRA BAHA IN NAGA

Dizon also visited Naga where he led the turnover of two excavators to the city government as part of the government’s flood mitigation efforts.

The specialized equipment will be used to dredge and clean Sagop Creek and other clogged waterways in the area.

He was joined by Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo.

“Merong maliliit na creeks tulad nitong Sagop na hindi kayang pasukin ng malalaking equipment. So ang request ni Mayor Leni at that time, was for us to have smaller backhoes na dredging equipment… na magiging permanent na dito sa Naga,” said Dizon.

“Nag-commit na rin kami kay Mayor Leni next week ng 2 mobile pumps na idedeploy po ng city doon sa mga areas naman na mabilis magbaha,” he added.
