MANILA — Officials from the Police Regional Office Central Visayas made a surprise visit to the Lapu-Lapu City Jail on Tuesday to check on contractor Sarah Discaya and others accused of involvement in the flood control scandal.
Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, PRO 7 Director, said that he was asked by the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla to inspect the condition of accused.
“Na hindi na-affordan ng any unnecessary treatment. I conducted an ocular inspection,” said Maranan.
He said that he personally saw Discaya and 9 others involved in the scandal at both the female and male dormitories.

“Andun talaga sila sa regular jails. In quarantine, 5 days to 2 weeks to check their health conditions,” added Maranan.
Based on assessment from the physicians, they do not have any illnesses except for their pre-existing conditions.
The facility is also heavily guarded, confirmed the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
“We are doing our best and this facility can secure our high-profile PDLs. We have additional force and coordinating with the regional police for perimeter security,” said Chief Inspector Ivy Christine Maningos, Lapu-Lapu City Jail Female Dormitory Warden.

Maningos also said that Discaya and others will be mixed with the general population inside once cleared by their regional physician.
