MANILA — Tarpaulins have been put up outside the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Malate, Manila, for the "Boxing for a Cause: Laban para sa Nasalanta" that would supposedly feature Police Gen. Nicolas Torre III and acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte.
Police personnel were already visible around the venue past 4 a.m. on Sunday, July 27, providing perimeter security for the potential match scheduled at 9 a.m.
Several undercard bouts are also expected to take place, all aimed at raising funds for those affected by the recent week of heavy rainfall and floods.
Torre says Rizal Memorial Coliseum ready for boxing match vs Baste Duterte
The supposed charity match was prompted by Duterte challenging PNP chief Torre to a fistfight, which Torre accepted by proposing a charity boxing match to raise funds for disaster relief.
Duterte, who flew out of the country on Friday morning, has since set conditions, including for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to take a hair follicle drug tests, for the fight that he challenged Torre to to take place.
Police Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, PNP spokesperson, told DZMM Teleradyo on Saturday that the boxing card was set up in response to Duterte's challenge.

"Aasahan niyo po na darating ang ating Chief, PNP sa Rizal Coliseum dumating o hindi man po si Mayor Baste because this opportunity will give us the chance po para makatulong sa ating mga kababayan," Fajardo said.

She said representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development would be at the venue to accept donations that the boxing matches would raise.
