A month after Star Music released her first-ever debut solo single, “Stay,” fast-rising ABS-CBN artist Carmelle Collado finally got to perform it on the “ASAP” stage on its April 12 episode.
Those who were already present in the early 2000s may remember that the song was originally performed by Carol Banawa, a beloved Kapamilya singer-actress known for her clear, soothing voice and emotionally resonant ballads that have become part of many Filipinos’ lives through the years.
While Carmelle delivers the track with a more powerful vocal approach, she’s still able to preserve its emotional core—evoking nostalgia, longing, sincerity, and warmth—as it conveys the singer’s vulnerability and gentle plea for a loved one to stay as he/she struggles to move on and forget all their shared memories.
