Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino are set to enthrall viewers once again as their mystery-romance series “The Alibi: Ang Buong Katotohanan” makes its highly anticipated TV debut this March 16. First streamed on Prime Video, the project returns with fresh twists: an alternate ending, never-before-seen takes, and more secrets waiting to be uncovered.
Ahead of its television run, KimPau sat down with broadcast journalist Rico Hizon on “Rated R: The Rico Hizon Podcast” in its March 4 episode, where they shared what fans can expect and the deeper truths the series hopes to leave behind.
Drawing from his first viewing of the series, Rico Hizon shared his strong impressions of “The Alibi,” saying it left him with goosebumps. “The thriller, the romance, the action---it really grabs me,” he remarked.
With KimPau’s undeniable chemistry, Rico asked the lead stars whether it all comes naturally, or if they carefully study and prepare before each scene. Kim responded, “Hindi ko alam, sa amin ni Pau parang hindi naman namin pinag-uusapan kung papaano namin siya super gagawin.” Paulo, meanwhile, explained that he and Kim rehearse by casually tossing lines back and forth, adding that they also bring their own flair to the scenes, all with the director’s approval.
Paulo admitted that he often tweaks his lines to better reflect his personality, “I get to imbibe the character, and if I’m the character, then the line should come out naturally based on how I see my character.” The Kapamilya actor emphasized how crucial it is to have confidence in knowing your role deeply, not just owning it, before making any revisions to the script.
As the conversation shifted to viewers who have yet to catch “The Alibi” since its initial release, Paulo likened the series to a “What’s in the Box” game. “Kinakabahan ka dahil hindi mo alam kung anong hinahawakan mo, hindi mo mahulaan,” he said. “’Yung mga questions sa isip nila, I think masasagot na dito sa TV version.”
For Kim, she described the show as “everyone’s truth,” but posed the lingering question: who holds the real truth? “Magsisinungaling ka in order for someone not to get hurt, kaya lang naman tayo nagsisinungaling minsan kasi may tinatago tayo. That’s why ‘di mo maiwasan gumawa ng alibi.”
The conversation moved deeper into “The Alibi” as the two were asked what audiences can expect from a series blending romance, crime, mystery, and thriller. Kim focused on the emotional range, “Lahat ng emotions, like full-range of emotions. Exciting siya kasi mystery, it’s something na kahit kami, ginagawa namin, hindi namin alam kung ano ‘yung totoong nangyayari.” She highlighted that even the script itself is wrapped in mystery.
Paulo echoed her thoughts, pointing out, “May chapters na dumarating sa amin ‘yung script, and hindi rin pinapakita kung sino ‘yung mastermind.” He confessed that this unpredictability is what sets “The Alibi” apart from his past projects.
Without giving away spoilers from the show, Kim teased that the emotional journey viewers can expect from her character marks her most daring role yet, one that even required her to learn the proper techniques of pole dancing. Beyond the chance to work with Paulo again, the Kapamilya actress disclosed that she accepted the project because of its genre. “First time ko pong gumawa ng suspense-thriller. ‘Pag pinanood mo ‘yung mga past projects ko, parang ngayon lang ako gumawa ng something like this. Very strong character, very bold, very dark. Challenging.”
Paulo expressed hope that audiences will take away the importance of truth. “The truth will always come out. No matter how much you try to hide something, it will always reveal itself.” Kim matched the sentiment, reflecting, “Hindi lahat ng sinasabi ng bawat tao, ‘yun ‘yung totoo. You can’t really trust everyone, so you have to keep something for yourself.”
