In the October 15 episode of “Are You G?,” MJ Felipe dives into a conversation with one of today’s leading Kapamilya love teams — Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino. With a nostalgic touch, MJ Felipe began the interview by showing the two fan-made collages of their early years, adolescence, and current photos. Adding a dose of fun to the moment, MJ went on to talk about the trending internet jargons of “OA,” equated to Kim, and “nonchalant,” with Paulo.
Being “OA” means putting your all into it.
The term “OA” has its pitfalls, at times being interpreted as having “too much to handle” qualities. Kapamilya actress Kim Chiu’s “OA but in a fun way” public image is shaped by her lively and optimistic personality, but in the talk, she exhibits how being “OA” reflects passion and commitment in everything one does or says.
When it comes to her work, fitness, and love for her family, Kim definitely agrees with “OA”—at least until the very end, when it comes to falling in love.
“Masuwerte sa opportunities, hindi tumatanggi sa opportunities, go lang ako nang go,” Kim said. The actress is regarded as one of the most memorable Big Winners of the Philippine version of the reality television program, “Pinoy Big Brother.” She defined the show as her “super duper milestone,” which paved the way for her to land several acting roles.
When asked about her fitness venture, Kim simply shared that work-life balance is the routine, “hindi mo na [kasi] mabubuhat sarili mo pagtanda mo,” she added.
Kim then becomes relatable when talking about “family love,” emphasizing the close-knit Filipino family culture. She shared, “Ever since naman parang lahat naman ng Filipino ‘yun talaga ‘yung number one—for the family.”
When asked to define love, the Chinita Princess said that it could not be described, as it has “four letters [but] with big meaning.” She also points out, “As you age, nagma-mature na rin on how you choose your battles [and] how you fall in love,” crossing out the “OA ‘pag in-love” category.
Nonchalance is grounded in self-assurance
Kapamilya actor Paulo Avelino, on the other hand, has been perceived as the archetype of the “nonchalant” individual, alternating between the stereotypes of effortless charm and indifference.
When asked about his quiet demeanor, the actor said, “Tahimik daw talaga ako. [Back then] I always got in trouble when I talked. [But now] I learned to listen [and] calculate everything before saying [something].”
Paulo was also nicknamed a ‘Man of Steel’ by MJ, referencing his stay in the showbiz industry for over 19 years. “Masasanay ka na rin, hindi ka na masyadong tatablan. You choose your battles [and] get to understand the psychology of the people who are doing it,” he said.
Like Kim, he prioritizes his fitness, reminding himself to “keep a strong body as you get older.” He also found it difficult to define love, similar to Kim: “Mahirap siya i-define, nag-iiba-iba [kasi] ‘yung pananaw mo sa buhay.”
Paulo did, however, playfully answer the “Man in Love” allegation: “Kayo na bahala, whatever makes you guys happy.”
