In the early stages of Edong (Jake Cuenca) mercilessly framing the innocent Ryan (Yves Flores) for Anton’s (Jameson Blake) murder, he decides to call Beth (Charlie Dizon) seconds after Ryan gets transported to Amurao’s police station.
Still relishing the success of his grudge-bearing scheme against Beth, he reasons that he wants her to suffer the way he did in the course of the fourteen years that he was wrongly imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. He targeted Beth specifically since she was the person who had sparked Edong’s incarceration by lying about Louisa’s (Mutya Orquia) watch.
With Beth falling to her knees over the heaviness of the situation, Erica takes the call, confronting Edong. However, he had already set his endeavors firmly, vowing to not stop with his vengeance against Beth, Erica, Mel (Sue Ramirez), and Alice (Janella Salvador).
Hours later, the girls reconvene inside Alice’s home, and it also marks the moment in which Beth fully explains her story. She details how she still left a huge gap in the truth that she had told to Chloe (Jewel Milag), particularly leaving the part in which she had lied about Louisa’s watch for herself—that she had believed Celestino’s (Bart Guingona) threat about her losing her college scholarship.
She had no choice but to lie, and she even forced the rest of them to do the same. Despite this, she lacked the feeling of guilt, even when Erica left Amurao and in the circumstance that destroyed their MABEL friendship.
After years of denying, Beth admits that she’s always been ashamed of herself and was actually left behind in terms of the skills of her college peers, a stark contrast to her younger self, who was always confident in showing off her wits.
Reaching her breaking point, Beth continues to speak, finally sincerely apologizing to Erica for all the times that she had called her selfish and belittled her. Pride was the only thing Beth had, but this time, she’s more than prepared to let it all go.
Beth kneels to Erica, begging to help in acquitting Ryan and stressing that her family doesn’t deserve Edong’s wrath, only she does. Erica agrees with an embrace, while Mel and Alice join in the comforting warmth they are all sharing.
Will Erica be able to save Ryan? Find out in “What Lies Beneath,” airing weeknights on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), A2Z, ALLTV, and iWant.
