Aside from enthusiastically engaging in intellectual and perceptive talks about his thrilling character in “What Lies Beneath” as the tenacious investigator Marco Torres, Race Matias confidently reprises memorable roles or beloved “hugot” lines from generational Filipino films and teleseryes in the “Batuhan ng Linyahan Challenge” of Kapamilya Chat.

For the nostalgic and heartwrenching segment, the Kapamilya actor is asked to select a random letter, which would identify the starting word he needs to begin his quick acting performances, particularly highlighting how it is crucial in the challenge to recall the viral expressions that have already been woven into Philippine pop culture.

Immediately intensifying the emotional scale, Race picks the letter “P,” finding Liza Soberano’s tearful monologue as Calista “Cali” Ferrer from “My Ex and Whys” as the perfect fit. Instead of mimicking Liza’s pain-ridden tone, Race turns more convincingly confrontational.

Pangit ba ako? Kapalit-palit ba ako? Then why? Ganon ba ako kapangit sa’yo?” he says.

The second letter, “B,” introduces viewers to Race’s male version of the relatable character for overlooked middle children, Bobbie Salazar from “Four Sisters and a Wedding.” Delivering a different style from Bea Alonzo’s nuanced hurt, Race appears with more rage seething through every question he conveys.

Ba’t kasalanan ko? Ba’t parang parang kung kausapin mo ako, kasalanan ko na nangyari ‘yan?” he iterates.

Another hopeless romantic vibe comes with the third letter, “T,” with Race swiftly expressing the sentiments of Janine Gutierrez as Amihan “AM” Fernandez in the romance drama film “Ngayon Kaya.” He takes on a distinct approach from Janine’s precisely hopeful emotions and gives off a more indifferent yet composed mood, accentuated with a little shrug.

Eh ‘di, try lang natin. If it doesn’t work, at least we tried, ‘di ba?” he states.

Race also got the chance to revive the timeless words of John Lloyd Cruz as Popoy in “One More Chance.” Distinct from the looming emotional disconnection felt from Popoy, Race goes all out with a totally resigned vibe, suggesting zero likelihood of rebuilding a broken relationship.

She… She loved me at my worst, but you had me at my best,” he expresses.

What comes next for Race Matias’ character of Marco as he pursues resurfacing suspects? Find out in “What Lies Beneath,” airing weeknights on Kapamilya Channel sa ALLTV2, A2Z, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), and iWant.
